On May 3, 2013, GungHo revealed a spin-off for the Nintendo 3DS named Puzzle & Dragons Z (パズドラZ, Pazudora Zetto) during the Puzzle & Dragons Fan Appreciation Festival 2013. The game was released in Japan on December 12, 2013. Game play is in general identical to the mobile game, but it adds RPG elements such as towns and NPCs. As of July 30, 2014, the game has shipped over 1.5 million copies. A manga about Puzzle & Dragons Z has been serialized in CoroCoro Comic since September 29, 2013, and the first tankōbon volume was released on April 28, 2014.
